Your point is well presented but not taken. There is a reason those fish are red-listed. It is true that these populations of fish are more abundant in their respective season. However, that season is precisely the time when they should NOT be caught.

No matter what time of the year it is, the populations of red-listed fish are far below what the ecologically correct par is. 'Whats wrong with that?' you might ask. Well, inconveniently to the big fishing business we aren't the only creatures who eat those fish. Many other species eat those fish. Less fish = Less species = Less animals. If your still saying 'so what', well just go back to watching TV or whatever you do.

The only way those red-listed fish are going to have a chance to recover is, you guessed it, stop fishing them. When given the chance to reproduce, populations recover exponentially. Especially since fish lay hundreds of eggs per fish. Instead of giving them a chance to repopulate we simply suck more up. Even fishing every other season would give them a significant chance to repopulate.

Trader Joe's only motivation to buy more when more is available is because ITS CHEAPER. Why does any company do anything? Survey says... You get the point. Of course they aren't going to buy when there are less of them because they are more scarce hence more expensive.

Your logic is actually backwards if you look deeper into the issue.
